"I want to be clear, these are voter registration forms — people's applications to vote," Adams said in a phone call with Daily Voice on Friday, Nov. 11. "These are not ballots."
Adams confirmed that his office is investigating the suspicious forms, but he couldn't confirm the number or other details of the case.
The Berks County Board of Elections referred about 1,300 suspicious voter registration forms to the district attorney's office on Thursday, Oct. 31, a WFMZ 69 News story states.
The election board's solicitor, Cody Kauffman, told WFMZ that the volume of voter registration forms raised questions over concerns of authenticity.
"I do think it's important to note the fact that just because we receive voter registrations, that does not mean that these voter registrations are approved or that these individuals or alleged individuals are then added automatically to the voter rolls," Kauffman explained to WFMZ.
Attempts to submit fraudulent voter registration forms are being investigated by the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office as well, according to a news release. Investigations are ongoing in Berks, Lancaster, Monroe and York counties.
"While we will not be divulging sensitive information about these investigations, we want to clarify that the investigations regard voter registration forms, not ballots," the news release states.
The Lancaster County District Attorney's Office is investigating 2,500 questionable applications that were dropped off at the county Board of Elections on Wednesday, Oct. 30, according to previous reporting by Daily Voice.
Another 3,087 voter registration applications are under investigation in York County, Daily Voice reported on Thursday, Oct. 31.
Philadelphia is having a separate problem with 3,500 mail-in and absentee ballots with a variety of issues that could keep them from being counted in the Nov. 5 General Election.
